The Oxford Children’s Hospital
In 2007 a purpose-built Children’s Hospital was opened at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, bringing most of our children’s services under one roof.
A fundraising campaign brought together the generosity of families, businesses and communities throughout Oxfordshire and beyond, in partnership with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to help create the Oxford Children’s Hospital.
The overwhelming kindness of all those that gave helped create this bright and spacious place with a range of facilities and equipment that were beyond the ability of the NHS to fund alone, such as cutting edge medical equipment, parent beds and sitting rooms, play areas, sensory rooms and classrooms.
Today the Oxford Children’s Hospital treats many thousands of children from across Oxfordshire and beyond. Whether it’s a routine appointment or life-saving surgery, the Oxford Children’s Hospital is there to care for all of its patients, from babies to teenagers.
The Children’s Hospital is an integral part of Children’s Services across the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing care across the Thames Valley and beyond.
Most Children’s Services in Oxford are based at the Children’s Hospital on the John Radcliffe Hospital site in a purpose-built environment for children. Some services are also provided in the main John Radcliffe Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Women’s Centre, and Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
Our hospital charity supports all these clinical areas and the continuing support from the local community has helped the charity fund the best possible facilities for our youngest patients – across all the hospitals within the Trust.
ORH Charitable Funds
Oxford Children’s Hospital 10th Anniversary Appeal is part of ORH Charitable Funds (registered charity no. 1057295) which supports departments and wards across Oxford University Hospitals, helping to provide the best medical equipment, research and facilities for our patients.
ORH Charitable Funds launched a campaign in 2002 to raise half of the £30million cost needed to build the Oxford Children’s Hospital. As one of only a handful of purpose-built, dedicated Children’s Hospitals in the UK, the Oxford Children’s Hospital would bring together children’s services under one roof in a place that was designed with children in mind. The overwhelming generosity of the businesses and communities in the region enabled the Children’s Hospital to be created with a range of facilities and equipment beyond the ability of the NHS to fund alone.
The generosity of the communities we serve has continued since the opening of the Children’s Hospital and each year around £800,000 in improvements and enhancements across Children’s Services are made possible because of your donations to our Fund for Children.
